A biker’s dream route through the wilderness of South Africa
Get ready to rev your engines and go into the wild!
The wild cat’s out of the bag! Here’s the itinerary for our motorcycle tour through the wild wonders of South Africa:
Take a sneak peek into our day-to-day journey
Arrive in Johannesburg; stay in Pretoria
Welkom to South Africa! Look out for our team when you exit Johannesburg airport. We’ll be the ones with your name on the board and a big smile on our face, ready to whisk you off to the hotel in Pretoria. Depending on your arrival time, you can either relax, explore the city or indulge in a unique African spa. We’ll catch up at the end of the day to celebrate the beginning of our tour.
Pretoria to Magoebaskloof
Today is the day you meet your riding partner ー your sturdy BMW motorcycle. Before we hit the roads, we’ll give you a download about the tour, what you can expect and some rules you need to follow. Then we’ll head up north into the wild Limpopo province. You’ll begin to notice that the landscape starts becoming wilder as you ride on. After about 370 km of riding, we’ll reach our lodge in the beautiful mountainous region of Magoebaskloof.
Magoebaskloof to Hazyview
Today, we set off to a haven cherished by bikers, immersing ourselves in the thrill of riding along winding mountain roads encircling the world’s largest green canyon. You’ll have your first wildlife encounter when you meet Jessica the Hippo – an African Hippo who is gentle enough for you to pet and feed. Following this surreal experience, we will proceed to explore the wonders of the 3 Rondavels, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, and the majestic Berlin Falls, before finally arriving at Hazyview. As evening descends, prepare yourself for a delightful dinner set against the breathtaking view of the river.
Safari in Kruger National Park
Today, we rise with the sun, and board an open vehicle for an unforgettable safari through the renowned Kruger National Park. Keep your eyes peeled as you could catch glimpses of magnificent beasts such as elephants, lions, rhinos, leopards, and buffalos. After our exhilarating wildlife expedition, we return to Hazyview just in time for lunch. In the afternoon, there’s an enticing option for those seeking even more excitement—a captivating 200km loop ride that unveils mesmerizing twisty roads leading to the historic Gold Mining Town of Pilgrims Rest and over the famous Long Tom Pass. If you don’t want to relax at the hotel, you could also enjoy the Elephant Experience, Graskop Gorge Lift, or the Tree Top Canopy Tour.
Hazyview to Wakkerstroom
As we head further down south, we’ll ride through picturesque mountain passes until we reach the charming town of Barbeton. From there, we continue across the captivating lowlands till we reach Wakkerstroom. Tonight, you’ll stay at a game lodge that’s home to an array of wildlife. If you’re up for it, go for a game drive, a quad bike adventure or simply stroll through the lodge and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of Wakkerstroom.
Wakkerstroom to Clarens
After a scrumptious farm-style breakfast, we will head west towards the majestic Drakensberg Mountains. The route we’ve chalked out will take us past the glistening Sterkfontein Dam and the immensely beautiful Golden Gate National Park, named after the radiant sandstone cliffs that shimmer like gold in the sunlight. Keep a keen eye out for the presence of zebras, baboons, wildebeest, and other fascinating wildlife that call this park their home. Our final stop for the day is the artistic town of Clarens. But we won’t call it a night until we’ve sampled a variety of local beers at the local brewery.
Clarens to Cradle of Humankind
We begin our day by making our way to the Lion Rock Wildlife Sanctuary, where you’ll experience a thrilling ride amidst the magnificent plains game, and get to witness their admirable efforts in rescuing and protecting lions. Next, we navigate the back roads of South Africa, which will lead us to the Cradle of Humankind, a remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its significant archaeological discoveries from the Stone Age. This evening, you will be treated to a delightful dinner against the backdrop of the majestic Magaliesberg Mountains.
Cradle of Humankind to Pretoria
We have a leisurely ride ahead of us today. First, we ride to the Hartbeespoort Dam to admire its tranquil nature, before ascending the Magaliesberg Mountain in a cable car. Get your cameras ready 一 you’re in for some breathtaking panoramic views from the summit. Next, we ride to Lesedi Cultural Village to immerse ourselves in the rich heritage of an authentic African village. While the rhythmic beats of traditional African music will keep you entertained, you will be served a delectable feast of traditional African cuisine. Late that afternoon, we’ll make our back way to Pretoria, where our unforgettable journey first began, for an unforgettable celebration. Raise your glasses and toast to the incredible memories, mesmerising views and newfound friends you’ve made along the way
Depart from Pretoria
All good things do come to an end, and so does this tour. We’ll arrange for airport transfers if you’re leaving that day. However, if you’ve been captivated by South Africa as much as we have, you can choose to extend your stay with some enticing options available. We’ll be happy to help you plan that out. But no matter what you choose, we hope you’ll always remember the breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and the extraordinary wildlife you’ve encountered.
